Norfolk Arms vs Shoreham

On yet another hot and sweaty day the Norfolk Arms hosted Shoreham at their home ground in Wiston. Historically the two teams have met many times and the games have always been hotly contested. This one however ended up being fairly one sided. Early pressure put on by Shoreham was not converted to points and the home side managed to turn the screw and some great aggressive defense saw Shoreham spill the ball and Jim Manvell pounced for his first try for the club. This was later added to, Dan Robinson with a typical hard run through the middle to score, Paul McMichael adding the extras. This is how it ended at halftime but after the break was a different story.

It started with more pressure from the Norfolk but a loose pass gave the Shoreham captain an interception try to close the gap to 12-7. Luckily for us, the boys rallied and some concerted forward dominance saw tries for Tim Laker, another for Robinson, a slashing pick up from the base of the scrum for skipper Matt Hodson (sorry but I'm allowed a little self-indulgence!), and a similar score from the prodigal son Matt Laker. 3 more conversions from McMichael gave a very healthy looking scoreline of 38-7.

Well done to all the boys, but a special mention to the sideline support. It was great to see the V.P.s out for an afternoon in the sun, and the rest of the die hards made their presence felt! Our first Club Day to actively encourage more socialising for all members of the club was a rousing success as my fuzzy head on Sunday will give testament.

Well done to those who managed to play cricket the next day, which proved to be just as hot!

Week off next week, time to rest some old bones and maybe earn some brownie points!
